It seems that with so many people on the road, nobody takes the train anymore. But there are still thousands of trains that run in this country every day. When you come up against a train crossing, the best thing to do is wait for the warning lights to clear before you try to cross. The worst thing you can do is try to beat a train. The odds are stacked against you, and could result in a fatal train accident.

Nobody’s exactly sure what a man from Mooringsport was doing Friday evening. His Nissan pickup truck was parked right next to a railroad crossing. They believe the victim was standing outside the car at the time of the accident.

A train operated by Kansas City Southern was coming down the tracks and collided with the Nissan truck. The owner of the truck was killed on impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The authorities are still trying to figure out what he was doing so close to a railroad crossing.

The investigation is still ongoing. The name of the victim has not been released yet. The same is true for the driver of the Kansas City Southern train driver. Thankfully, nobody else was injured in the crash. There has also been no comment from the victim’s family. There are also no details as to why the police think the victim was outside of his vehicle at the time of the accident.

We suspect that the victim’s family will file a wrongful death suit against the train company. It will depend on whether or not the train driver was negligent at the time of the crash. If so, they’ll have a good chance of winning their case.
