Thanksgiving is supposed to be a time spent with families around a big dinner table. People eat turkey and stuffing and way too much pie. The last thing you expect to happen on a holiday is for your loved one to be killed in a drunk driving accident. That’s exactly what happened to a 31-year old woman from Claiborne Parish in Louisiana who was killed by a drunk driver on thanksgiving day.

Kayomoniqic George was driving her 2017 Hyundai Accent on the Southbound lanes of Highway 79 just south of the Claiborne line. A driver in the other direction was trying to pass cars in a no passing zone when he hit George.

The other car was a 2001 Chevy Tahoe, driven by Francisco Valdez-Ramirez of Haughton. The 24-year old man had 5 other passengers in the truck at the time of the crash. He hit George head-on. She was taken to the hospital but died as a result of her injuries.

Valdez-Ramirez was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. So were his passengers. The police suspect that drugs or alcohol had a role in this crash. Toxicology reports were taken from both drivers. The investigation is still pending.

George is from Homer, Louisiana. Her family had not made a comment about the accident as of yet. Our hearts go out to her family. It’s one thing to lose a family member in a car accident. But when that accident happens on a holiday, it’s even harder.

We suspect that the victim’s family will file a wrongful death suit against the driver of the Tahoe. If he is found to have been under the influence at the time of the crash, they’ll have a good chance of winning their case.
