At about 11 pm on Thursday evening, troopers in Louisiana responded to a two-car accident on Interstate 10 East near US Highway 61. When they got there, there saw the two cars involved were a Ford Fusion and a 2013 Chevy Malibu. A man killed in 2-car accident in St. James Parish.

The driver of the Ford Fusion was 25-year old Dennis White. Both he and the other car were traveling westbound on the highway when White rear-ended the Malibu. After his car hit the back of the other car, his car veered off the road and hit a tree.

Despite the fact that White was wearing his seatbelt, he sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver and the passenger of the Chevy Malibu only sustained minor injuries.

There is still no known cause for the crash. The authorities did obtain toxicology samples from both drivers. The toxicology report is still pending. No further information has been released at this time.

The fact that toxicology screens are being done could just be a formality. Or, the investigators suspect that one or both of the drivers were under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.

If either of the drivers were impaired, it would go a long way to explain what happened. For now, we’ll just have to wait for the results of the report.

We can only imagine what the family of young Dennis White is feeling right now. Typically, if you rear-end someone, you are held to be at fault. If this is the case, his surviving family will likely not be able to pursue a claim against the driver of the Chevy Malibu.
