Pedestrian Critically Injured in North Hearne Avenue Crash in Shreveport

A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries after a pickup truck struck him on North Hearne Avenue in Shreveport on Friday evening, September 25, 2026.

Shreveport police responded near North Hearne Avenue and Forum Drive at approximately 5:27 p.m. The investigation remains open.

What Police Found at the Scene

Officers located an unconscious and unresponsive male pedestrian approximately 25 feet off the roadway, according to the Shreveport Police Department account reported by KSLA.

A gray pickup truck with damage consistent with the collision was stopped nearby.

Shreveport Fire Department personnel transported the pedestrian to Ochsner LSU Health with injuries described as life-threatening.

The pedestrian’s identity and current condition were not released in the initial report.

Police Say the Pickup Was Traveling South on North Hearne Avenue

The preliminary Crash Investigation Unit findings indicate that the pickup was traveling south on North Hearne Avenue when it struck the pedestrian near the Forum Drive intersection.

The initial report does not establish where the pedestrian entered the roadway, whether the pedestrian was within a marked or unmarked crossing area, the pickup’s speed or how much time the driver had to react.

Those details matter because pedestrian collisions often turn on timing, visibility and exact roadway position rather than a simple description that one vehicle struck one person.

Police Did Not Suspect Impairment

Members of the Shreveport Police Department’s DWI Unit responded to the collision.

The pickup driver was taken to Ochsner LSU Health and voluntarily submitted a blood sample for testing by the North Louisiana Crime Lab.

Police specifically said impairment was not suspected at the time of the preliminary report.

The fact that a blood sample was taken should not be interpreted as evidence of impairment. Testing and documentation are part of the investigative process in serious crashes.

What Evidence May Help Explain the Collision

The central unresolved question is the sequence immediately before impact.

Investigators may examine the pickup’s physical damage, roadway marks, scene measurements, lighting and visibility conditions, witness accounts and any nearby video. Depending on the vehicle, electronic data may also help establish speed, braking or other inputs immediately before the crash.

Video can be particularly important in a pedestrian collision because it may establish exactly where each person was located and how quickly the events unfolded. Business surveillance and other privately owned camera footage can be overwritten quickly.
