Ka’Sheena Daniels Dies After I-10 Crash Near Elysian Fields

Ka’Sheena Daniels, 31, died after stopping to help a neighbor trapped in an overturned vehicle on I-10 West near Elysian Fields Avenue in New Orleans on September 25, 2026.

Fox 8 reported that Daniels was born and raised in New Orleans, worked in accounting and was raising her adopted son, Noah. She and her friend Franchon Williams had also planned to begin paramedic school together.

After Daniels helped pull the trapped driver from the overturned vehicle, a second collision pushed a stopped vehicle into the people who had gathered to help. Daniels was struck and went over the side of the interstate.

This Was Not One Collision

The most important fact about this crash may be its sequence.

New Orleans police said the incident began when a vehicle traveling at high speed made a sudden lane change and overturned.

Several motorists stopped. Daniels got out and helped free the trapped driver, whom she recognized as a neighbor.

Police said another vehicle then struck one of the stopped vehicles, pushing it into the group of people who had gathered around the original crash.

That means a serious civil investigation cannot treat this as a simple one-impact wreck. Investigators need to understand the first rollover, the positions of the stopped vehicles and rescuers, the second vehicle’s approach and the secondary impact.

NOPD’s Drone Reconstruction Could Be Important Evidence

Four days after the crash, NOPD closed portions of I-10 West and I-610 West so investigators could use a drone as part of the fatal-crash investigation.

If our firm were representing Daniels’ family, I would want to obtain and preserve the resulting reconstruction material, including available aerial mapping, scene measurements and photographs.

That evidence may help establish where the overturned vehicle stopped, where the assisting vehicles were positioned, where Daniels and the other rescuers were standing, and how the secondary collision moved the stopped vehicle into the group.

Our Louisiana fatal crash investigation guide explains why reconstruction evidence can remain important long after traffic is moving again.

Every Vehicle in the Sequence Should Be Identified and Preserved

This crash potentially involves different evidence from several vehicles.

If retained, we would want the original rollover vehicle, the vehicle involved in the secondary impact and the stopped vehicle that police say was pushed into the crowd identified before repair or disposal changes their condition.

Depending on the vehicles and available systems, electronic crash data may help establish speed, braking and timing. Dashcam footage, phone video or other vehicle-mounted recordings could also become important.

The physical damage patterns may help reconstruction experts determine which contacts occurred first and how the stopped vehicle moved after the secondary impact.

The Timeline May Be Measured in Seconds

Williams told Fox 8 that only a short time passed between Daniels helping the trapped driver and the secondary collision.

That makes timing evidence especially important.

911 calls, dispatch records, witness video, traffic cameras, dashcams and other time-stamped records may help establish how long the original crash scene existed before the later impact and what approaching drivers could see.

Those records should be preserved while they are still available.

There May Be More Than One Insurance Policy to Investigate

A multi-stage crash like this should not be evaluated by looking at only one vehicle’s insurance card.

If retained, we would identify the owners, drivers and insurers connected to each vehicle involved in the rollover and secondary impact, then determine whether any additional liability, umbrella, excess or uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage may apply.

That does not mean every driver or insurer is responsible. It means the family should understand the complete insurance picture before anyone asks them to sign a release.

If Ka’Sheena Daniels Was Your Family Member

A family facing a crash like this should not have to reconstruct a multi-vehicle interstate collision while also dealing with a sudden loss.

If this were our client’s family, we would move immediately to preserve the police drone reconstruction, the involved vehicles, electronic vehicle data, available video, dispatch records and the insurance information for every potentially relevant vehicle.

That is part of The Babcock Benefit. We focus on evidence, insurance and litigation leverage from the beginning.

We are not built for volume. We are built for leverage.
