A 55-year-old Vidalia man died and at least one passenger suffered moderate injuries after a 2003 Chevrolet Corvette left Louisiana Highway 131 in Concordia Parish on September 26, 2026.
Louisiana State Police have not released the driver’s name or identified the injured passenger. The reason the Corvette left the roadway remains under investigation.
What State Police Reported
Troop E responded to the one-vehicle crash at approximately 11:49 a.m. State Police said the Corvette was traveling south when it left the roadway, struck a fire hydrant and multiple trees, and came to rest.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected during the crash. State Police said he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead. The police release says the passenger or passengers were restrained, suffered moderate injuries and were transported to a hospital.
The release uses inconsistent singular and plural wording when describing the passengers, so the publicly available information does not establish the exact occupant count. What is confirmed is that at least one passenger was injured.
Troopers collected routine toxicology samples for analysis. No toxicology result, citation or final cause has been released.
What Still Needs to Be Determined
The central question is why the Corvette left Highway 131. A single-vehicle label does not answer that question by itself. Scene measurements, roadway marks, witness accounts, the Corvette’s post-crash condition, any available electronic vehicle data and the completed toxicology analysis may help investigators determine what happened.
Seat-belt use affects injury risk, but it should not be treated as proof of what caused the Corvette to leave the highway. Crash causation and injury severity are separate issues.
For the injured occupant, the practical priority is preserving the vehicle and obtaining the completed State Police report before physical evidence changes. Our Louisiana crash-evidence guide explains which records commonly matter, while our guide to fatal and serious crash investigations explains how police and reconstruction evidence can clarify an initially unexplained collision. Additional central Louisiana injury-claim guidance addresses evidence, insurance issues and venue considerations for serious cases in the region.
