Ray Murray of Lake Charles died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash at Gerstner Memorial Drive and Third Street early Saturday, October 24, 2026.
According to Lake Charles Police information reported by KPLC, officers responded shortly after 3 a.m. Murray, who was driving one vehicle, was taken to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and later transferred to a Lafayette hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The police Traffic Division is investigating.
Police have not publicly explained how the vehicles collided. The available report does not identify either vehicle, the other driver’s condition or who had the right of way.
What Happened at Gerstner Memorial Drive and Third Street?
The central unanswered question is how two vehicles came into conflict at this intersection shortly after 3 a.m. Investigators need each vehicle’s direction, pre-impact movements, traffic controls and available sight distance. No account establishes whether either vehicle was turning or proceeding straight.
Evidence to Preserve
Intersection recordings and traffic controls. Promptly identify footage from nearby businesses, residences, traffic systems or passing vehicles. If signals controlled the movements, investigate their timing and operating condition.
Both vehicles and scene measurements. Preserve collision damage, debris locations and original photographs before repairs or salvage. Determine whether either vehicle’s equipment recorded usable electronic collision information.
Emergency and medical records. Murray received care in Lake Charles before transfer to Lafayette. Ambulance and hospital records may establish the treatment and injury timeline, but do not establish how the collision happened or who caused it.
What Murray’s Family Should Know
A fatal intersection collision does not automatically determine legal responsibility. If retained, Babcock Injury Lawyers would seek preservation of the vehicles, available video and reconstruction evidence, obtain appropriate medical records and identify relevant insurance policies before evaluating a potential claim.
Our Lake Charles car accident and wrongful death resources explain these investigations. The family does not need to know whether a claim exists before important evidence is preserved. Call (225) 500-5000 or contact the firm online. We do not claim to represent anyone involved.
