A 75-year-old man from Pensacola, Florida, died Saturday night, October 10, 2026, when a Dodge Durango overturned on Louisiana Highway 3059 near Jeff Davis Ward Line Road in Calcasieu Parish.
Two passengers sustained minor injuries and were transported to a hospital.
Louisiana State Police say the collision happened shortly after 10:30 p.m.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2026 Dodge Durango was traveling east when it failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. The SUV entered a ditch and overturned.
All three occupants were properly restrained. The driver died at the scene. Investigators have not publicly identified him.
Impairment remains unknown, and toxicology testing is pending.
What Caused the Durango to Leave the Curve?
The investigation should establish where the SUV began departing its intended path and what occurred before it entered the ditch.
The fact that the collision happened at night makes actual roadway lighting, curve visibility and warning signs relevant.
The roadway’s geometry, pavement condition and shoulder should be documented.
The 2026 Durango should also be preserved so investigators can evaluate its tires, steering, braking and available electronic information.
The vehicle may contain records relevant to speed, braking or stability-control activity, but the existence and usefulness of that information must be verified.
The Passengers’ Legal Questions May Be Different
Although both passengers reportedly sustained minor injuries, their circumstances may still warrant review.
Passengers generally occupy a different position from drivers when evaluating potential fault and available insurance coverage.
A single-vehicle collision does not necessarily mean an injured passenger has no claim.
The investigation should establish what caused the roadway departure, who may be legally responsible and what insurance policies apply.
No vehicle defect or roadway defect has been established.
What the Family Should Know
The driver’s family does not need to make assumptions about the cause of the crash.
