38-Year-Old Marksville Man Killed After Ford F-150 Leaves LA 1 in Avoyelles Parish

A 38-year-old man from Marksville died Monday morning, October 12, 2026, after his 2003 Ford F-150 left Louisiana Highway 1 south of German Bayou Road in Avoyelles Parish.

Louisiana State Police say the crash occurred around 6:23 a.m. The pickup was traveling south when, for reasons still under investigation, it left the roadway, traveled down a ditch embankment and struck multiple trees.

The driver was wearing a seat belt but sustained fatal injuries. His name has not been released in the State Police report. Troopers collected routine toxicology samples, but results have not been announced.

Why Did the F-150 Leave LA 1?

The critical question is what happened before the pickup entered the ditch. The initial account describes where it traveled and what it struck, not why it left the highway.

Investigators should measure the roadway edge, shoulder, ditch and truck’s path into the trees. Physical marks, ground disturbance and impact positions may help determine whether the vehicle left the pavement abruptly or moved off the roadway over a longer distance.

State Police have not reported another involved vehicle, a vehicle defect or a defective roadway condition. No such cause should be assumed without evidence.

Preserving the Truck and Scene Evidence

The 2003 Ford F-150 should be retained for a mechanical inspection before it is dismantled or disposed of. Tire condition, steering and suspension components and the braking system may contain evidence bearing on its departure. Because of the truck’s age, modern electronic crash records should not be presumed available.

Photographs and measurements taken before the scene was cleared are also important, particularly those documenting the first point at which the pickup left the roadway and the initial tree impact.

Questions for the Family

A single-vehicle fatal crash does not automatically create a claim against another person or company. An independent investigation may nonetheless be appropriate where the cause remains unexplained.

If retained, Babcock Injury Lawyers would work to preserve the truck, obtain the State Police investigation and examine whether the evidence identifies a legally responsible party or potentially applicable insurance coverage. The family does not need to decide who was at fault before ensuring that evidence is preserved.

Our firm approaches serious crash investigations through early evidence preservation and litigation-ready preparation, as explained in The Babcock Benefit.
